To the Jewish Community in Scotland on the death of Lord Jonathan Sacks

8 November 2020

Dear Friends,

I am sending you my own condolences and those of Bishop Brian McGee on the sudden death of Lord Sacks. I know he was very ill and we were praying for his good health but the call to eternity came suddenly. This is  a day of sadness for all of us. Lord Sacks was a voice of integrity, common sense, compassion, openness and inclusiveness in a society that seems often seems to be speeding towards disintegration.  His books were clarion calls to us all to work together for the common good and to build a home together in spite of our differences. Indeed he recognised that our differences enriched our vision and widened our understanding. May his outstanding example be a source of inspiration for us in our work to live together and may it give us increased energy in promoting good relations between Christians and Jews.

Wishing you all a long life.

Isabel
